Barcelona to Provence to Milan...can it work?!

Help! I%26#39;m travelling with a party of 3 girls, not too keen on driving, and trying to get to Provence after Barcelona. Are there any trains linking this route?

Time%26#39;s an issue too, would be looking to spend a week in total.

Thanks!!!

Hello, jacatta — and welcome!

If you only have a week total I would suggest you either stick to Barcelona and that area or skip Barcelona and concentrate on Provence and the Côte d%26#39;Azur *perhaps* heading to Milan and flying home from there after a quick visit.

By train it will take you all of 11 hours to get to Nice from Barcelona, or 8-9 hours to get to Avignon and three hours to get from there to Nice. Milan is about 5 hours from Nice by train. At a minimum travelling will eat up all of a long day and a good chunk of another.

The easiest place to research possible timetables and routings is (believe it or not) the German rail site, www,bahn.de. Click on %26quot;English%26quot; and have fun. Their database is very complete and the interface is fairly user-friendly compared to any of the three national rail sites, renfe.es, voyages-sncf.com and treintalia.it. You may have to use some or all of these for fares though raileurope.co.uk might be a good place to check fares too.

Here is a loooong thread on the whole topic of travelling between Nice and Barcelona: http://tinyurl.com/yo4npb

Good luck!

I just posted some very good news (well, maybe...) about budget flights from Barcelona to Marseille. Clickair is introducing service on this route on May 1 with introductory fares at 20€ including taxes. Only problem is that there is only one flight daily leaving BCN at 06:30. Still if you can fly to Marseille in 50 minutes and it would take you 8-9 hours (and cost you about three times as much) to travel the same distance by train, it may be worth staying up and partying in Barcelona (not a bad place to do it...) until it is time to head to the airport! ;-)

Check out my post on the other thread I gave you the link for.
