We will be in Paris with our children (ages 16, 14 and 9) on Bastille Day. After reading through some of the forums, i think we will stay away from the parades (fighting my way through crowds to see a parade sounds more like stress than vacation) and hope to take in a museum (are they open on Bastille Day?) I%26#39;d love to get on a boat to see the fireworks, but the only cruises I can find are dinner cruises, and the food on those is always so awful. Does anyone have any advice on a private charter (just for the ride and drinks) or even just a restaurant from which we could view the fireworks? Or are their fireworks in other locations throughout Paris? We are staying on the Ile de St. Louis....I would happily stay closer to our hotel (for an easier trip back to bed at the end of the evening) if there were festivities in the area.....Any advice?

I think you can see fireworks from the Ile, but the quai and bridge areas may be crowded, so find out what time to position yourself (and watch your pockets).
Bastille Day is like July 4th and alot will be closed.
BTW, I don%26#39;t think they can be any better than Red Bank! LOL

The crowds in Champs Elysees are really not that bad and you don%26#39;t have to fight your way through. People were very nice to let the children up in the first row - and if you have boys they will love it.
Of course it can be quite hot and maybe a little tiring for them to stand in the same spot for hours - but once the soldiers start marching and they roll out their military %26quot;hardware%26quot; it is quite spectacular.

The crowd on the Champs Elysees for the parade are very controlled by the police and the hardest part it to access the Champs Elysees. Metros are closed as are many streets leading to them. Again go early.
Cruises for the fireworks book early. I tried last year but no luck.
The absolute best place to see the fireworks is the Champs de Mars. Trocadero comes second.
There is music to accompany the fireworks and that is something you cannot enjoy from a distance. Also the crowd is friendly and happy and it is fun to share the event with the other 1000s who will be there.

Don%26#39;t they teach you European history over there ?
Refuse to answer that one - you must do some googling and see what you can find out !
