Is air conditioning a must in June?

We%26#39;ll be staying in Nice the last week in June, and I%26#39;ve found an adorable apartment in Old Town but it doesn%26#39;t have a/c. Do you think it will be terrible, or is it worth it?

Thanks!

Depends on the precise location. We have a flat in the old town of Villefranche. The walls are three feet thick and it gets no direct sun, so it never gets terribly hot. We used to have a place in Nice which was south facing and like an oven in summer.

The other consideration is that most Americans are used to air conditioning and never experience high indoor temps. Personally, I wouldn%26#39;t risk baking night time heat as I would find it very difficult to sleep. Temps in late June will be approaching 90F.

LondonBob is correct ~ it%26#39;s a risk, particularly if you%26#39;re used to A/C and lower humidity.

We stay in Cannes and have been putting it on at the end of May ~ two years in a row now! And though we have a big terrace right on the Croissette i.e some breeze, it%26#39;s bliss going indoors for relief.

I had a feeling that was the answer, but I was hoping for otherwise. Thanks for the advice!

We stayed in Nice last June for a week and our place did not have AC the weather was fairly warm at that time but it didnt seem to bother us. We had a couple of windows we could keep open at night.

The Old Town tends to be in shade most of the day due to the tall buildings and narrow streets so the air is dark and damp. The walls of the buildings are thick and the windows small with shutters. It%26#39;s all designed to keep the sun out , a breeze %26#39;pulled%26#39; through - a natural air-conditioning and to keep cool throughout the day. If the apartment you are considering has these features, you will probably be fine. It depends if the sun can get into the building for expample there are some open squares within the Old Town like Place Rossetti, also, the top floor buildings have more sun plus of course if the windows face south, the sun can come in - keep them shut in the the day. I would think that you would be ok if you check with the owners and voice your concerns. A ceiling fan is often just enough to keep the air moving and to keep comfortable. Also, in June, it won%26#39;t be quite as hot as July/August, it should be quite pleasant. I think the charm of staying within the Old Town would win it for me!

best wishes

Thanks for your suggestions - we decided to go the safe route and will be staying at the Villa La Tour. I hope it is as quaint as the little apartment I found!
