Travelling to Lourdes on May 19- 20th

Hi !, we are a family of seven, 4-5 adults ( seniuor citizen included) and 2 children and we are interested in going to Lourdes overnight on May 19th from Paris , france. We are discussing whats the best route and minimum cost to go to Lourdes. Most of the train schedules are in French and I do not know how to speak or read it. Would it be better to hire a van and driver to bring us there and back, we have a return trip to Amsterdam at 10 am on the 21st and do not want to miss this.

How about convenient and clean place to stay overnight on 19th- 20th ?

it takes about 6 hours to travel from Paris to Lourdes by TGV. Advance purchase RT tickets can be as low as 50€, but the normal full fare is quite a bit higher. There is also a night train that takes about 9 hours to make the trip. Use www.voyages-sncf.com to research timetables and fares. (Click on the British flag in the lower left corner for the English language version.) This %26quot;how to%26quot; guide by MorganB will help you find the lowest fares: http://tinyurl.com/qpdef. With your large party you may be better advised to contact the English-speaking reservations agents at SNCF in Paris by phone. The number is in MorganB%26#39;s guide.

A van and driver would be a very expensive option. Think of it this way: A driver and van to take seven people from the center of Paris to CDG airport would cost at least 100€. The distance is ~35 km. A RT to Lourdes is about 1750 km, or 50 times the distance. You can do the math from there.

Good luck!

Bear in mind that you will be in Lourdes during the long Ascension week-end and that it will probably be crowded. Make your train/hotel reservations ASAP.

Good point, Pvoyageuse. That probably also means that the lowest train fares will not be available, but it is certainly worth trying.

Another possibility would be flying from Orly (ORY) to Lourdes/Tarbes airport (LDE) with Air France. RT air fares *can* be as low as ~135€ but again your dates may work against you.
