Versailles passes

I will be traveling from Paris to Versailles with my 2 under 18%26#39;s grandchildren, on a weekday, probably Friday April 13, 07.

I see there are 2 passes which include RT on the train, the Forfait Loisirs Chateau de Versailles ticket, and The Versailles One Day Pass. They seem identical?

We want to see the palace and gardens, and would either like audio guides or a real guide.

Can someone tell me which is better; if they are a bargain at this time of year, and for teenagers? Do the children get a reduction in the cost of either pass?

The Versialles One Day Pass is the all inclusive pass for the chateau. It does NOT include transportation.

Transilien leisure package is a combo ticket available that includes RT transportaion and the pass (sometimes also referred to as Passport). Audio guides are included free with the one day pass. Tour guides are available for extra fees and you need to sign up for the established tour times,

You will want to take the RER C train to Versailles on the %26quot;V%26quot; line, and the Transilien is available at each station.

You can contact Versailles by email. They always answer but it may take a few days for them to get back to you.

Assuming you do go on April 13....

High season at Versailles begins 3 APR 07, so the Passeport for that day will be 20€ for you, and will include all areas of the Chateau and gardens, including the Trianons and MA%26#39;s Domain. It also includes the audio guide.

Children under 18 are admitted without charge, but their entrance does not include the audio guide, so if you want to take them in for free, you could get the audio guide separately if you want them to have it. (On weekends, as an FYI, the gardens are not included either for the kids, as the fountains play during %26quot;season%26quot;, so a separate entrance fee has to be paid at the garden gates....just in case you do decide to go on a Saturday or Sunday. For you, the Passeport would be 25€).

If you decide you want your grandchildren to have the audioguides, go to an FNAC and buy all your tickets the day before you head out to Versailles, so you won%26#39;t have to wait in line for anything. You can purchase both the Passeport and the audioguide tickets at FNAC. Then, simply purchase your r/t RER tickets at the station you depart from in Paris, and you will have everything you need in hand. If you don%26#39;t feel the audioguides are important for your grandchildren, you can purchase the Forfaits Loisirs combination rail ticket/Passeport at a Transilien ticket window for yourself, and rail tickets for your g/c.

Guided tours are completely separate from the passes and free stuffs for under 18. When you arrive at the Chateau, you can inquire about tours/departure times, etc. for that day and purchase those tickets there. There is a discount for the children. The Chateau no longer does %26quot;live%26quot; tours with a guide on any of the regular circuits, they now instead use the audioguide. The tours offered with an actual guide are for those areas not open to the general public, like Marie Antoinette%26#39;s private apartments. You will see groups in the main rooms being led by a guide/speaker. These are groups that come together and bring their own guide. All guided tour tickets are now purchased at the main Information center on the left when you approach the Chateau, marked with a really big %26quot;i%26quot; (the International sign for information). The English language version of the website still tells you to go to the door marked with a D, which is where all those tours departed from, but it%26#39;s not correct. Everything changed last year, and they%26#39;re a little slow catching up. So, if you want to take those tours, go to the door with the %26quot;i%26quot;.

Is it true that the Museum Pass will get someone into Versailles? Maybe you can get a two day museum pass. I read that children are FREE for many places of interest.
