TGV and Luggage

It%26#39;s been over a decade since I%26#39;ve been on the TGV. How do they handle luggage? Is it all carryon? Cant remember if I checked bags or not....had major jetlag at the time ; )

You just carry it on. There is storage above your seat that can hold carry on size unless its a double decker where they are too small. There is also storage at the end and middle of the cars.

So it%26#39;s just storage at the center of the train where anyone can get to it? ie, and steal it at any given stop? I know i%26#39;m on a double decker as my ticket says i%26#39;m on the top deck.

Its the center and ends of each car.... If you are concerned about it getting stolen, you can either lock it to the frame or just keep an eye on it when the train stops. You can usually find room for your bag where you can see it from your seat. TGV dont have alot of stops typically but that does vary by destination.

Hi Loui1, When my husband and I travelled on the TGV, for this I had purchased a padlock with a long cable lead that attaches to it. It was easy to find, purchased at a travel goods shop or section of a department store.

We stowed our luggage at the end of the carriage and wired our two (very heavy) cases together with the padlock. It just made it hard for someone to walk off with the two attached heavy cases.

We needed to be mindful of where we were in proximity to our disembarkation point so that we were not fiddling around with the padlock too late to get off the train in time.

As Morgan and Blossom suggest, just lock it to the racks. I used a bicycle lock to link handles to the bars on the racks. Thieves could bring bolt cutters but they are not likely to bother.

Cool, glad you two said something. I have a nice retractable lock and cable for my skiis that I can use.
