Looking for Charming Paris accomodations in May (10 days)

Bonjour, I will be traveling to Paris from May 10-May20 2007 with my boyfriend. It is our first trip to Paris and we are really looking forward to it. I am torn between trying to rent an apartment or staying at a hotel. It doesn%26#39;t matter much to me either way. We just want a central location (i,e, near the Ile de la cite/Ile de St. Louis/Notre Dame, etc.) I was thinking about the Maurais area (but we do need to sleep at night....I hear it%26#39;s quite loud). I have seen several apartments on the internet but they seem quite expensive for such a small space. No we do not intend to spend much time in our room, but we do want to maximize our dollar. I am looking for specific suggestions from anyone who has stayed somewhere they found clean, safe, convenient, and a good value for the money. I would appreciate any and all HELP! We need to book soon. Merci!!!!!!

Try vacationinparis.com and look at the Eiffel Hideaway. It is reasonably priced, and in a good location (not too much nightlife nearby/quiet sleeping). It is not luxurious but it is perfectly clean and has everything you%26#39;d need. The only thing is, I am not sure if it is air conditioned. We didn%26#39;t need it but you might want it in May. Good luck.

Sorry, I forgot to mention we were also considering the Latin Quarter and St. Germain de pres. Has anyone found %26quot;a jewel in Paris%26quot; they would like to share? Need to rent May10-May20 2007.

Merci!!!!!

Unfortunately, the 2 apartments I would recommend are already rented for the time period you want ;(

You have wrong information about the Marais - it%26#39;s not noisy at night at all. We are in our 50%26#39;s, have stayed in the Marais six times now, and have never been bothered by noise. Yes, there are a couple of blocks where clubs can be loud, but that%26#39;s a couple of blocks in a whole neighbourhood. If you run your location by us here , we%26#39;ll advise you as to whether it%26#39;s a %26#39;noisy%26#39; block or not.

You don%26#39;t say what your budget is, so it%26#39;s hard to gauge what%26#39;s %26#39;expensive%26#39; to you. Have you tried these?

%26gt;%26gt;%26gt; I am looking for specific suggestions from anyone who has stayed somewhere they found clean, safe, convenient, and a good value for the money%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;

It would be useful if you provided some sort of accommodations budget / price range per night---50-75€...75-100€....100-150€...125-175€...150-200€....more. This would help %26#39;..dial-in..%26#39; what is available to you and generate better directed responses, recommendations and suggestions. Within the areas you seem to prefer---3eme-upper-Marais, 4eme--Îles %26amp; lower-Marais on the Right Banl and 5eme-Latin Quarter, 6eme-Saint Germain des Prés on the Left Bank---there are certainly any number of good hotel choices to suit almost any preference, priority or budget.

As for noise...Paris is a busy city...and you%26#39;ll find noise just about everywhere (even on tiny little side streets the noise from garbage colletion trucks at the crack of dawn can rattle your brain...or that street can be a %26#39;short-cut%26#39; to or from a heavily trafficed area by every %26#39;.kamakazi..%26#39; on a motorscooter) but for the most part, relative noise levels will depend on the particular street you%26#39;re located on and whether your room faces the street, an inner courtyard or is at the back of the building....is on a lower or a higher floor...etc.

The big advantage to staying in an apartment is that you can prepare your own breakfast, and sandwiches for a picnic lunch once in a while which always makes the budget go farther.

I don%26#39;t understand the assumption that Paris must be dangerous. I%26#39;m often in Paris without my husband and travel the Metro and the streets alone at all hours. I%26#39;ve stayed in a number of different areas, and have never felt unsafe. Because the French eat much later than we do, you%26#39;ll find that there are people on the street until a very late hour.

The Metro is so efficient that I think that most areas are pretty central, but being close to the Seine allows a stroll along the river to or from dinner, and that%26#39;s certainly not a bad thing.

You%26#39;ll notice as you walk around the city that all restaurants, cafes, etc, have their bills of fare posted outside. That%26#39;s the law in France, and it makes it easier to choose a place to dine.

What we call the menu, they call la carte, and what we call the specials of the day, they call le menu. Le menu is a selection of two or three courses with two or three choices for each, generally speaking. They are fixed price selections, and generally represent the best value for that meal, that day.

To help control the budget, remember that it%26#39;s not necessary to drink bottled water anywhere in western Europe unless you just can%26#39;t stand the flavour of the tap water. Also, don%26#39;t drink Coca Cola, it can be (and usually is) more expensive than wine. Drink the house wine, it has been selected with the specific foods on la carte in mind and since no restaurant in France could survive with a bad house wine, it will be quite palatable. Avoid imported spirits or beers, just drink what is distilled or brewed in France. For the beer, whatever is on tap, is probably the best buy.

Remember that there is a three tier system of charges (you%26#39;ll see the tarif on the wall) in restaurants and cafes when it comes to having a coffee or glass of wine. The cheapest price is for standing at the bar, the second level is for occupying a table inside, and the most expensive is for occupying an outside table. The reason is, of course, because people retain a table longer than their space at the bar, and the outside tables longest of all. They must pay the rent so to speak.

I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll have a great time. Bon voyage.

I don%26#39;t know what you consider reasonable but we stayed at Hotel Henri IV in the St. Germain area. Excellent hotel and very central.

Thank you for this suggestion (Hotel Henri IV in the St. Germain area). It looks very nice....I have sent a request for availability. Anyone else have any ideas for nice, charming, romantic apartments for around $1500.00-$2000.00 U.S. dollars for ten nights? If you have addresses, phone #%26#39;s etc. that would be great!!! Merci pour m%26#39;aidez.....(I think that says thanks for helping me!)

We rented a fabulous little studio apartment on the Isle St Louis the same time last year. I wouldn%26#39;t want to stay anywhere else. Check out: guestapartment.com. They were wonderful to deal with. I give details in my trip reports. Have a grea time. You%26#39;ll love Paris.

I just booked our apartment in the 5th for almost the same 10 days (May 11-21). While most of the least expensive places were already booked, there was one Left Bank studio in a great location that was available for May 12-20 due to a cancellation. Or at least it was a few days ago. cyberrentals.com/France/…p306478.htm If you are interested I would contact them quickly. You can always do a hotel for the first 2 nights (shouldn%26#39;t be hard to find through TripAdvisor). I also learned of an even cheaper studio (650 euro for 10 nights), but it is farther away. It is near metro Raspail (lines 4 %26amp;6) %26amp; Vavin. Located on Boulevard Raspail, in the private %26quot;passage d%26#39;enfer%26quot;.You can see pictures at http://franceresa3.site.voila.fr/ (it is #431). Maybe we%26#39;ll see y%26#39;all in Paris!
