Consider the Fragonard perfumery at Eze it is close to Nice and you can visit the village of eze as well. It is well worth it.

Greetings abqTaosNewMexico,

The entire enjoyment of the Fragonard facility, is the free tour of the place, and the process of perfume making. Following the tour, they give you a sales pitch to buy the product or products, which I might add are quite costly. But if you%26#39;re into perfume, I guess you might enjoy it. Strolling through the town was fun, but quite hilly. Enjoy!

I imagine a truly custom made perfume would cost a huge amount.

Consider how much perfume costs off the shelf - and how much of it is not very nice at all. It can take years to develop a %26quot;good%26quot; scent. If it was easy we would all be doing it...........

Thank you to all who answered my query...Guess I%26#39;ll think about purchasing a fragrance either in Paris or Nice...In your opinion, was the town of Eze more enjoyable than Grasse ? I have a leg brace due to a knee problem and while some climbing is do able, 20 or more steps is a bit difficult.

Would St.Paul de Vence be a better choice ? any suggestions would be helpfull.I%26#39;m not interested in Monaco, although I understand the ride, via the bus , is pretty spectacular.... Loretta

Hi abqTaosMewMexico,

You are mentioning two towns that are truly strenuous for sight seeing. Eze specifically, which runs up the side of a mountain, and although quite beautiful, and scenic, will require much climbing, either up or down. St Paul de Vence, as well is quite hilly, but not as much as Eze. There are some level areas in town, but walking into the older section, you might find it an ordeal.

You might consider a day trip to Antibes, which is quite quaint, and charming, and for the most part pretty level. Another nice little town, is the village of Vence, which is lovely as well, and pretty level. Whatever,or wherever, enjoy!

Many thanks for the terrain info...I will be spending 2 days in Antibe before I arrive in Nice and may just go back for a day..Will consider your other suggeston of visiting Vence.Do you know if bus transport is available ? Loretta

We went to Grasse last summer. As best as I can remember, Fragonards does not make perfume for customers. There are a lot of stairs at the end of the tour to get to their store. The Parfumerie Galimard was the one where you could get a fragrance made. It takes over 2 hours for them to create the scent and you must be there before a certain time so it can be done by the time the chemists leave, but I can%26#39;t remember exactly what time that was. I think it was by 2 pm. The brochure I have says it is 35 Euro. You take a tour and then they help you create the fragrance you want. The brochure says that you leave the seminar with a 100 ml perfume bottle personalized with your name or the name you have chosen for the creation. They will keep the formula in their files so you can order for family and friends. You have to make an appointment for the studio of fragrances as they call it. Their email address is galimard@galimard.com

and their website is www.galimard.com. Hope this helps.

Many thanks mediamama for the very complete information regarding the parfume question...The 35 euros sounds not to bad for what you are getting.I will check other places perhaps the galleries Lafayette... It sounds like a ordeal to just get some perfume, especially the major climb to the perfume studio... From what I understand,The village of Eze seems a bit too difficult for me to navigate so may just forgo that trip. Loretta
