Travelling around Paris

Hi

Me and my mum are flying with Ryanair to Beauvais Paris on Sunday 11th and arrive 1825.

Should we buy the tickets for the airport shuttle at the airport or online direct from the company?

Does the bus really leave 20 mins after the flight lands? Are there frequent shuttles from the airport as I am worried we miss this one because we are waiting for our luggage.

We are staying at the Hotel Royal Gardens, 218/220 rue de Faubourg St Honore (just off Champs Elysees). The airport shuttle stops at Port Maillot - does anyone know if it is a long walk to the hotel from here or how much a taxi would be or is it easy to get the metro.

Once at hotel Im not sure whether to buy a 3 day ticket for the metro - my mum isnt great at walking distances - although I dare say there are plenty of cafe/bars to take a break along the way. Anyway, if I decide to buy the tickets where do I purchase them, how do I work out the number of zones required and does anyone have a rough idea of cost.

Thanks in advance.

Nicola.

Hello Nicola,

Don%26#39;t know much about Beauvais aeroport so can%26#39;t answer this part. I can however offer advice on anything else:

- First of all, your hotel is not just off les Champs Elysees. It is a good 15mn walk from the nearest metro station on Champs Elysees that is George V.

- However, there are two other metro stations nearby the hotel:

M° Ternes on Line 2 and M° Saint Philippe du Roule on Line 9. Once you arrive at Porte Maillot, you take the metro line #1 from Porte Maillot station to Charles de Gaulle Etoile and then change to line 2 and stop at Ternes. or the metro line #1 from Porte Maillot station to Franklin Roosevelt and then change to line 9 and stop at Saint Philippe du Roule.

- You said your mum is not great at walking distances, what about stairs. The reason I am asking is because in the metro there are loads of staires and not so many escalators. So be prepared to do a lot of climbing.

- There is not such thing as 3 day ticket (or I really missed somethinh there). It is either single ticket (€1,40), weekly tickets or monthly tickets. You usually can buy them at metro stations and you may only need zone 1 and 2. If it is for 3 days, you may want to buy a %26#39;%26#39;carnet de dix tickets%26#39;%26#39; or 10 tickets in a row which cost 10,40 instead of 14€.

Hope this helps and have a nice stay in Paris !

In theory the buses from BVA leave 20 minutes after your flight arrives. Don%26#39;t worry. There will be enough buses for everybody and the last one will not leave until you have your luggage and have arrived at the bus. You might as well pre-purchase your tickets — one less thing to worry about.

With your mother%26#39;s walking issues you would probably be best to take a taxi to your hotel. The trip by métro with luggage will be no fun and making the necessary transfer will inevitably involve stairs. A taxi will probably cost you less than 10€. You pay the metered fare plus 1€ for each suitcase.

I think you should go to www.ratp.fr and begin to familiarize yourself with the bus system. As mentioned the métro can involve stairs and sometimes lengthy walks through tunnels. The bus system is a little more difficult to understand but it is much friendlier to people with mobility issues. The RATP site will allow you to plot out itineraries by bus from one place to another and also will allow you to download and print schematics of any bus route you may want to use. You can also get a free bus map when you arrive in Paris but some homework now will make things much easier when you arrive.

%26gt;%26gt;%26gt; There is not such thing as 3 day ticket %26lt;%26lt;%26lt;

The %26quot;3 day ticket%26quot; is the Paris Visite pass. You might consider buying one day Zone 1-2 Mobilis passes at 5€50 for your stay rather than the ~19€ PV pass. If you think you will use the buses/métro less than five times a day (quite likely...) then just buy a %26quot;carnet%26quot; (karn-ay) of ten tickets as you need them. You and your mum can both use tickets from the same carnet. You will find the info about the Mobilis pass on the RATP site but only on the French language pages. They will save you enough for a cup of coffee each at least!

And (a minor point) the cost of a carnet has been 10€90 for some time now.

Go n-éirì do bhòthar leat!

Oupsy...yes the 10 tickets %26#39;%26#39;carnet%26#39;%26#39; is 10€90 and not 10€40...Simple typing error...

However I am discovering the 3 days ticket...I have the monthly one as I live here in Paris so I guess I never had to use one....Deep apologies ....
