Travel in January

January is the best time for my wife and I to travel because of our schedules. Has anyone experienced Paris during this time? Any recommendations?

It%26#39;s a great time to be there because there won%26#39;t be a lot of other tourists, the lines will be short, tables at restaurants will be easier to book, there will be a full schedule of concerts, ballet, opera, theatre etc., with luck there will be some stunning special exhibitions on, and so on...

Think in terms of cold and damp weather. You%26#39;ll want probably a seriously good raincoat with a warm lining, gloves, scarf, hat, warm socks and above all good walking shoes that will not only be comfortable but keep your feet dry. Even in the depths of winter you will probably want to walk a lot. I rather like wandering when the trees are bare because I often spot things that would have been obscured by the foliage at other times of the year.

Otherwise think layers in terms of clothing. It will be cold outside but warm in stores and museums so you%26#39;ll want to be able to peel off a couple of layers easily. Pack some lightweight silk or high-tech long underwear. You may need it or you may not but it won%26#39;t weigh much or take up much space in your luggage in any case.

And air fares are cheap!
