What's blooming in the jardins in May?

And which one is a must see?

Merci you have all been very helpful

The Parisian public gardens are always beautifully maintained and landscaped (whichever ones you go to, at any time of year). You can%26#39;t miss the Jardins du Tullaries, its on the concourse between the Lourve and the Concord. The Jardins du Luxemborg in the Latin Quarter is quite beautiful (don%26#39;t miss the Medici fountain and the small Statue of Liberty dedicated to the 911 victims). The man-made Parc Buttes du Chaumont was fashoined by a famous Parisian landscape architect. The larger outlying forested parks with their own lakes are a sight to see as well , those being the Bois du Vincennes and Bois du Bologne. Besides being the art appreciation capitol of the world, Paris also shows its love for beauty in their many magnificent parks. Which one is a must ? Sorry, I can%26#39;t make that decision , I loved them all.

It is difficult to predict what is blooming in May. Right now spring is very early with magnolias in full bloom for example.

All gardens are well maintained and maybe roses will be ready if temps stay above average.

I like the garden at Palais Royal and also Bagatelle in Bois de Boulogne. And of course all the Paris parks. Park Monceau is more unusual than Luxembourg gardens for example.

DMcD,

Actually in the Luxembourg, it is not the Statue of Liberty that is dedicated to the 9/11 victims, but the small tree planted next to it after the catastrophe, it was planted by the president of the Senate.

The statue was the model used for the big one, and has been there for more than 100 years.

As for the gardens, it is hard to tell, it really depends on the gardeners and their budget from the Senate (Luxembourg) and the city of Paris (Tuileries) so both are well decorated. I know for sure the daffodils season is March.

You MUST go and see %26quot;Le Jardin Alpin%26quot; in Jardin des Plantes. Enter the park from Rue Geoffroy St. Hilaire, go straight past the big museumbuilding, cross to the left, go past the glasshouses and then there will be a small sign showing to a %26quot;secret%26quot; tunnel, on your left, to Le Jardin Alpin.

To illude %26quot;mountain%26quot; scenery this garden has been dug down in the ground about 3-4 meters and then been built up with rocks, small waterstreams etc. - plus filled with all sorts of mountain flowrs, trees, bushes, herbs and shrubs. Extremely lovely in the spring (I saw it in late May), when all the small mountain flowers bloom. Wonderful place. Hardly no tourists, strangely enough, mostly elderly French ladies.

raphy -------- I stand corrected on the S. of L. ---- thats some interesting trivia. Until now, I thought the other S. of L. on the island near the Eiffel Tower was the model. As I recall, the %26quot;small tree%26quot; is actually an American Oak and will grow to be a fairly large and proud feature. In any case, we thank you (Parisian%26#39;s) for the kind thought. On a related subject; I recall seeing a California Redwood tree (Sequoia) near the Hotel de Crillion , given to the City of Paris by the State of California. This too, will become a very prominent feature of Paris some day and will live another 2,000 years and grow to a phenomenal height (tallest trees in the world). A wise choice befitting the timeless City of Paris. I mentioned this to a Parisian friend of mine and he tells me there have been a number of Sequoia%26#39;s planted throughout France.

Last two weeks of May last year in the Jardin des Plantes near the zoo (5e) there is a most beautiful rose garden with so many beautiful varities of roses.

Discover - we must have been in Paris (and Jardin des Plantes) in the same period. I didn%26#39;t see many roses blooming - most of them were only in buds ?? Maybe I looked in the wrong places.

Highseason for roses, also in the roseraie Bagatelles (Bois de Boulogne) and roseraie Haÿ-les-Roses (Val-de-Marne) are mid-June (they also have the competitions in that period, I believe)

But still, if it is warm May, you can get lucky.
