Food markets and bakeries in the 5th or 6th

We are staying in an apartment on rue St Andre des Arts near Place St Michel. I would appreciate recommendations for bakeries, grocery stores or outdoor food markets nearby. We are arriving late morning on a Tuesday and will want to stock up for breakfast and other light meals in the apt, picnics, etc. We%26#39;ll probably be looking for bread and pastries, cheeses, fruit, pate, wine, and yummy little things that can be re-heated easily in the microwave or eaten cold. I would also appreciate any recommendations for tasty local items from the markets.

There is a nice market near metro stop Maubert-Mutualite...it%26#39;s outdoor but there are also some shops for pate, wine, charcuterie, etc. near the market. I believe the market is on Saturdays and Tuesday or Wednesdays.

There is a great boulangerie called Eric Keyser on Rue Monge.

Keyser%26#39;s bread is really terrific. Get some nice cheese or pate and a whole grain boule or a plain baguette...oh I%26#39;m in heaven just thinking about it...

Everything you listed will be available at the western-end of the street where it becomes rue de Buci. For your arrival day, a supermarket, a couple of decent boulangeries, lots of artisan epiceries on the surrounding streets, and some really great bistros are less than 5 minutes from your door. Focus North/West/South, and away from the quaint, touristic, and very un-French part of the latin quarter around rue de la Huchette. You will have a wealth of places to eat nearby and great food choices.

the Buci Street market is practically out your door on the rue Buci. On St Andre there is a Champion grocery store there, a very good bakery, fruit stand and a butcher shop, as well as Da Rosa, for some amazing goumet delicacies.

Oh, hello there metromole... we%26#39;ve made eachother redundant, it would seem.

As they say, great minds...

You do know the rest of that saying, metromole, yes? :-)

If you head all the way to the end of rue de Buci and then turn left on rue de Seine you will find a good fromagerie just a few steps up the street on the right hand side.

if you keep walking south on rue de Seine, across bv. St. Germain about a hundred yards you will come to Gérard Mulot%26#39;s beautiful boulangerie/patisserie. Not only can you get delicious macaroons and fruit tarts there but also quiches and other savoury goodies as well as wonderful croissants and other %26quot;viennoiseries.%26quot;

There is an excellent wine shop. La Dernière Goutte, with a friendly American owner (who also owns the restaurant Fish on rue de Seine north of rue de Buci) on rue Bourbon le Château. Just cross rue de Seine from rue de Buci and make your first right. It%26#39;s only about 50 yards from the end of rue de Buci.

I *think* there is also a wonderful traiteur (sort of something between a caterer and a deli) on rue de Buci with stunning looking and delicious ready to eat canapés and hors d%26#39;oeuvres and the like. I don%26#39;t recall the name. Perhaps somebody else does.

When you are all through shopping if you walk north on rue de Seine past Fish you will come to a great café, La Palette, maybe 100 yards from rue de Buci or a little more. There are also good cafés around the Carrefour de Buci — but I like La Palette more.

Enjoy!

So many wonderful suggestions!! We also are staying in the 5th, on the Rue des Ecole (St. Jacques Hotel) and arriving on a Saturday very early in the a.m. Any other ideas for Saturday and Sunday (the day I%26#39;m concerned about)....we are staying 4 nights!!! Can%26#39;t wait. I appreciate any comments

jedwardsIllinois, I%26#39;d follow the same advice offered on this thread. You%26#39;ll learn your own neighborhood after you%26#39;ve slept-off your flight. There%26#39;s more variety around rue de Buci so go there first and forget foraging the Sorbone neighborhood on your first night. TA has a ton of recommendations for the rest of your stay so a little searching via the box on the right of the forum window will help you plan that.

Merci for all the wonderful suggestions! Just 6 more weeks and we%26#39;ll be in Paris!

One more question. I keep reading about the delicious rotisserie chickens with the potatoes cooked in the drippings that are available at some street markets. Is there a good place to get the chicken and potatoes at the Buci street market?
