Versailles Fountains

I am trying to plan a VERY relaxed itinerary and am stuck about going to Versailles on the weekend to see the fountains-but more crowds and on the weekdays, no fountains less crowds. We are in Paris for 14 days but one sat is a holiday so this shakes things up a little. Please let me know if the fountains are a must-thanks

I honestly don%26#39;t think you would be able to tell the difference (in terms of their effect on your visit) between the crowds on the weekends and weekdays. If you take the train to Versailles and arrive before the Chateau opens, the difference between the w/e vs. w/d line is all of about 5 minutes. And once you%26#39;ve gone through the entrance lines and people begin their tours, it%26#39;s all pretty much the same. My last two visits in the last year have been on a weekday and a weekend, and the only place the bigger crowd mattered was at the cafe near the Apollo basin, where is was virtually impossible to get a table on a Sunday.

The fountains are awesome to see, and I think it would be great if everyone had the opportunity. Are they musts?? Hard to say. My biggest priority wouldn%26#39;t be placed so much with the fountains or the crowds, but on the weather. If you plan to visit the grounds, with or without the fountains playing, you%26#39;ll want to do it an a no-rain day if it%26#39;s possible, and that%26#39;s impossible to predict months away. I would keep your intinerary flexible enough to do outside things on sunny days and museums and such on those rainy days when you%26#39;d rather stay inside. I%26#39;m much more inclined to put an itinerary together that is site specific, but not day specific, so when you wake up in the morning and look outside or check the forecast for the day, you can make your decision about what you want to do. If that happens to be on a weekend when the fountains are playing, it%26#39;s a bonus. If not, you can go and know that you missed them, but that it won%26#39;t be earth shattering.

And also, if you go on a weekday and then decide you absolutely MUST see the fountains, you can always come back on a Sat or Sun and just pay entrance to the gardens to see the fountains. Versailles is close enough to Paris, and quite easy to get to, that an afternoon ride out to the chateau to see the fountains can all be accomplished in only a few hours.
