Traveling with kids on train from Monte to Barcelona

I am really hoping someone can help me with this.

My 2 young kids and my husband are traveling

to Monte Carlo at the end of April and we are

trying to get to Spain on train since we hear it is the cheapest.

I have checked the train and it looks like we should stop

at Monpellier since it will take 4 hours to get there.

Or do we go straight through to Barcelona for 8 hours?

WILL THE TRAIN RIDE BE TOO LONG FOR THE KIDS?

IS IT UN ACCOMOMADATING FOR THE KIDS?

IS THERE SOMETHING WE CAN DO TO HAVE FUN IN MONPELLIER ALSO?

We enoy the beach very much so. Any help please or suggestions?

Thank you.

I think the fastest you can get from M.C. to Barcelona by train is at least 11-12 hours with three or more changes. Sounds pretty grim to me with two young kids!

How about renting a car and driving most of the way? So much easier with kids and probably no more expensive. You could drop your car in Perpignan, about a 6 hour drive from M.C. with generous stops, and take the train the rest of the way, about 3 hours by direct train. Cross-border drop-off fees can be steep. Make a two day trip out of it and it coiuld be a fun adventure rather than a serious drag.

For the train check www.voyages-sncf.com for timetables and fares and use this guide by MorganB to help navigate the SNCF site and get the best fares: http://tinyurl.com/qpdef

For car rental look at www.autoeurope.com or www.kemwel.com. If you go the car rental route ask for a diesel as they are more economical and the fuel is cheaper than gasoline in France.

good luck!
