Lourdes area & flight info

We are heading to Lourdes for the first time. We will only be able to spend 6 days. We are travelling from Boston and don%26#39;t know much about the area other than what we have read online and in lonely planet. For a short trip where is the best place to fly to? Every flight that we have found to Toulouse, Bourdeaux, or Barcelona is very long with connections, etc. We are not interested in seeing Paris on this trip. Just the area near Lourdes and possibly the Pyrenees and/or Barcelona. We don%26#39;t have much time so we were looking for suggestions on a simple flight from Boston with easy access to Lourdes and attractions withing a day%26#39;s drive. Thanks.

There are no direct flights from Boston to Lourdes.

Flights from Paris to Lourdes leave from Orly airport which mean that you%26#39;ll have to go from CDG to Orly (approx. an hour by bus).

Another possibility would be to take a train from Paris - see www.sncf.com (French railway)

I just had a quick look and found a BOS-Toulouse (TLS) flight with Iberia with one stop in Madrid (MAD) departing BOS 6:20 p.m. arriving TLS 10:10 a.m. The return flight leaves TLS at 10:45 a.m. and arrives BOS at 3:45 p.m.

Not sure when you are travelling but mobissimo.com is showing fares for this routing in mid-June at ~$870 RT. Considering that the best fare I can find on the same dates from BOS to Lourdes (LDE) is $1455 and the lowest non-stop from BOS to CDG is over $1300 this looks pretty good to me.

You might even be able to arrange a stop-over in Madrid in one direction if you wanted to.

I assume you are renting a car. If so check www.kemwel.com and www.autoeurope.com. A diesel engine preferably with manual transmission will save you a fair bit on fuel and rental costs.

If you end up travelling any distance by train in France read this %26quot;how to%26quot; guide by MorganB: http://tinyurl.com/qpdef. It will show you how to book the lowest fares on www.voyages-sncf.com

Good luck!
