Step-by-step on obtaining Carte Orange Pass

Hello to all! I am taking my girlfriend to Paris nect week and I need some help!

I have been researching ways to get around Paris and decided the Carte Orange Pass is probably our best bet.

We will be arriving this coming Tuesday and leaving on Monday March 12.

I am flying into CDG airport so can anyone give me step-by-step instructions on where I need to go to get the Carte Orange and what I will need to do in order to get it?

I went www.rapt.fr but all of the information I found on the Carte Orange was in French.

I know I need a 1%26quot;x1%26quot; picture.

And does anyone know what the current cost of one is?

Basically I am hoping someone can give me step-by-step instructions on how to get one right after getting off the plane.

Thanks in advance!

You have to make your way to the RER ticket office - there is one inside the Terminal 2 building, alongside the TGV ticket office.

There is another one in a free-standing building (not connected to a terminal) where you take a shuttle to get to it (from Terminal 1).

You can see terminal maps at www.adp.fr

Once you get to the RER ticket office, you want to ask for a Carte Orange and %26#39;coupon semaine%26#39; (correct term is hebdomodaire, but forget that, semaine will work), 5 zones. Be sure to begin the inquiry with a polite greeting, simply %26quot;bonjour, madame /monsieur%26quot;...

Push your money or credit card and the photo into the change tray. Hopefully, they will assemble it for you. If not, then finish your transaction and step aside.

The photo goes onto the orange id card, it%26#39;s obvious where, and it will self-stick. You write your name on the id card and you write the id card number on the small ticket. That matches them up. You carry both items at all times, using the same ticket over and over in the turnstiles, but showing the carte orange id to any officials who ask. (later, if riding the bus,you show the id to the driver as you board and you do NOT use the ticket).

You will use the ticket in your first turnstile as you arrive at the tracks (quai or voie). You board the train for Paris, and keep your bags in your close possession on the train (best to sit away from the doors).

The ride takes 35-40 minutes or so.

The 5-zone ticket will be about 30 Euro; the 2 zone ticket is 16 Euro but only good for Paris, not for the CDG-to-Paris distance.

Everything travelnutty says is right on the money. I would just add that, unless you are planning other trips outside Paris, e.g. to Versailles, you would probably be best to just get a Zone 1-2 CO costing 16€ rather than a Zone 1-5 CO costing 31€50. You will not be able to use the CO for your return trip to CDG as it will expire on Sunday so just buying individual tickets (8€10 each) will actually be cheaper.

If you go to www.ratp.fr, click on %26quot;Titres de Transport%26quot; then on %26quot;Carte Orange%26quot; and then on %26quot;Tarifs%26quot; you can print off the page with the data and highlight the relevant line showing the pass you want to buy to show to the agent. That way, along with travelnutty%26#39;s suggestion there should be no misunderstandings.

Good luck!

***UNLESS*** you are planning on using the RER %26#39;B%26#39; ligne--ROISSYRAIL--train connection as your means of transfer from CDG into central Paris...don%26#39;t bother trying to purchase a CARTE ORANGE transportation pass at CDG. These will only be available at the ticket kiosks at the two(2) RER stations located within CDG...and if you%26#39;re not planning to use the RER %26#39;B%26#39;, it probably isn%26#39;t worth the time or aggravation to make your way to one of these stations just to purchase something that will be much more conveniently purchased at any RER or Metro station in Paris.

Even if you are planning to use the ROISSYBUS connection to Opéra as your mode of airport transfer, given your itinerary, you will probably be better off with a separate ROISSYBUS fate (8,40 €) and a CARTE ORANGE Zone 1-2 pass (16€).

For the actual purchase of the CARTE ORANGE pass itself, if you haven%26#39;t been able to figure out how to make a CARTE ORANGE purchase from the dozens and more, very detailed, annoted instructions on this forum (all in English) then here%26#39;s what you do---

FIRST---go to the RATP web page for the CARTE ORANGE %26#39;..Tarifs..%26#39;--

ratp.info/informer/tarif_abonnements_o.php

SECOND---PRINT OUT the page on your computer.

THIRD--CIRCLE the line in the Tarifsfor CARTE ORANGE...Zone 1-2 %26#39;..HEBDO..%26#39; 16,00 €uro...adding only the number of CO passes you want to purchase

FOURTH--Make sure that you have a %26#39;..head-shot..%26#39; (approx. 1%26quot; x 1%26quot;-to-1 1/4%26quot; x 1 1/4%26quot;) for each pass that you wish to purchase.

FIFTH-- Have either the total amount of your total CO pass purchase (use a calculator if necessary) in either €uro cash or a major credit card.

SIXTH---pass the %26#39;circled%26#39; CO tarif page, your %26#39;head-shot%26#39; photo(s) and € cash or major credit card across the counter to the ticket agent (DO NOT attempt to use an automatic vening machine at the station).

SEVENTH--remember to take the CO passes that the ticket agent passes back across the counter to you with you.

Thanks for all your help!! I appreciate it!! I will post when we get back and let you all know how it went.

I have heard that the carte orange is going away soon. To be replaced by navigo which I%26#39;ve also heard will only be available to residents in the Paris area. Is this true? If so does anyone know when this will happen? If so what will be the best option for non-residents to replace the current carte orange system?

You can find discussions on the Navigo and potential %26#39;visitor%26#39; option by searching the forum using %26quot;navigo%26quot;...

This is why I like and appreciate Trip Advisor so much. I got exactly the information that I was looking for. Going to Paris for Christmas and will post both from there and when we get back. From what I have been able to find out the information from travelnutty is right on.

Was a former member of Trip Advisor that has come back and can%26#39;t begin to say enough about what a great site and service it is.
