Availability of ATMs at CDG?

Hello:

We will be first-time visitors to Paris. Can someone please tell me if there are ATMs in CDG that will work with a US Visa (Chase) card? We%26#39;d like to get some euros for transactions before we leave the airport.

THANKS.

Yes, there are. I came into terminal 2, hall E, (if I recall correctly) last month and there was one very close to the Information desk. I have previously come in to different terminals and always found an ATM machine. I used a debit (Visa) card, and I am sure that if you have a pin #, they will work with your Visa card.

Asking,

It used to be that the ATM%26#39;s in CDG were either all broken or out of cash. The situation has improved quite a bit in the last couple of years.

When you come out of customs and into the main terminal, just look to your left. You will see an ATM.

As a safeguard, I would bring one other ATM card from another major bank.

It seems to me that there are ATMs quite close to the various cambios (foreign exchange desks) at CDG just as there are at most other European international airports.

The way you tell if your card will work is to look at the back of the card for the Plus logo, or the Cirrus one. Those are the two largest ATM systems and one or both appears on the back or your debit card. Go to an ATM that shows the same logo, et voila, Euros at a good exchange rate.

You notice that I said debit card. Do not withdraw cash on your credit card. The transaction is considered a cash advance and the interest starts mounting up from the minute you complete the transaction.

As we have posted over and over again, you need a 4 digit PIN and cash in your checking account as European ATMs seldom allow a choice of accounts. They just go straight to checking.

Bon voyage.

The only %26#39;..catch..%26#39; to waiting until you arrive at CDG to get a sum of %26#39;..arrival / convenience..%26#39; €uros may be that since so many flights arrive in the early AM, there may well be long lines to use them...AND...since US financial networks usually %26#39;..go down..%26#39; for routine, daily up-dates and maintenance (usually for no more than 20-40 mins...but occasionally longer...sometime between 2:00 AM-4:00 AM EST, the six(6) hour local time difference means that the network may not be available for a period between 8:00-10:00 AM in Paris....and your otherwise perfectly valid ATM transaction may be refused for no apparent reason during this period. It%26#39;s probably not a big deal...and if you wait 5-10-15 minutes the network will probably be back %26#39;..up..%26#39; and runnin%26#39; like a fine Swiss watch to process your transaction when you try again. You can also exchange US dollars for €uros at any airport Bureau de Change....but it%26#39;s a potential %26#39;arrival aggravation%26#39; that you can avoid by simply by arriving with a small sum of €uro cash already in-hand....ready to hit-the-ground-runnin%26#39;, in whichever direction you%26#39;re headed, after exiting Customs.
