Schengen visa from San Francisco french consulate

I have a couple of questions for obtaining schengen visa from French consulate in San Francisco since I have had absolutely no luck with the consulate itself...they never respond to emails nor do they answer their phone...

1. Are printouts of hotel reservation (eg:from Venere.com) sufficient.

2. We are flying out of Paris to Rome but have decided to rent a car and drive from rome to paris. Is this a potential problem since we won%26#39;t have a return airticket or train ticket. But we will have a car rental reservation from AutoEurope.com.

3. Do we need to take 2 separate consulate appointments if we are travelling and applying for the visa together. I ask this also because some of the hotel reservations are in my husband%26#39;s name only.

If noone in this forum has answers to these questions can you direct me to the right websites?

will appreciate any help in this regard...

What is your nationality? How long do you propose to remain in the EC? As is often posted here, details matter.

Hi estellaSF — and welcome to the forums!

I think your questions are much too specific to be anwered with any kind of authority by anyone here. If you have not already looked at them these sites may help.

One thing I did notice is that you must produce a confirmed hotel reservation for all the countries you will visit for each single night spent in Europe. I do not know if printouts from Venere as opposed to the individual hotels will suffice. I think that is the kind of question you will have to ask the consular official(s) in San Francisco.

My *guess* would be that your RT air ticket to Paris would be sufficient, but again I do not *know* this.

And I have no clue as to the answer to your third question.

Good luck!

Flying into and out of Paris

I have an airticket from Paris to Rome but we are planning to drive from Rome to Paris i.e. return to Paris is by car (no airticket).

Thanks for your response, IrishRovr. Like you mentioned the questions I have can only be answered by consular officers or people who have had similar situations. I have called the consulate atleast 7 times and they NEVER pick up the phone.

For people who are considering applying for Schengen visa: The german consulate in san francisco is the BEST. They respond to emails and eventually they will pick up the phone and answer questions provided they are precise. Unfortunately we wont be travelling to Germany :(

I finally spoke to someone from the French consulate and he was very helpful. I%26#39;m posting answers to the questions I had for the benefit of other travellers who might have similar questions:

1. Email printouts of the hotel reservation is sufficient. You should make sure the address and phone number for the hotel is also printed in there.

2. As long as you are within the schengen countries you won%26#39;t have to show proof of travel like train tickets, car rental, etc. You just need to show RT ticket for France.

3. Appointments must be taken for each applicant. But if you are a couple/family travelling together you will be called in together.

Please be aware that these only apply to the French consulate in San francisco. Other consulates might have different procedures.

Good work! I%26#39;m glad you got that worked out! Visas are always nerve-racking...

Paris and Rome are two of my favourite European cities. If you are driving from Rome to Paris i hope you have given yourselves plenty of time. There are so many wonderful places to see en route. Florence is a wonderful city with an astonishing history and some fabulous treasures of western art. Tuscany is splendid. The Italian lakes, French Riviera, Provence, the Alps and Burgundy could all easily eat up three or four days of your time and leave you wanting more.

I hope you can see at least some of the wonders along the way. Have a great trip!
