renting an apartment with air conditioning August

my family of 5 (including 3 kids) will be renting an apartment in paris for a week in mid-august...on a scale of 1-10 just how important is it for the apartment to have air conditioning?

It really depends on what you are comfortable with. I was in Paris the last week of Aug first week of Sept in 2005 and it was incredibly warm. My Parisian friends even said it was unusually warm. Our apt did not have air conditioning and being the spoiled American I am (as my Parisian friends say) was uncomfortable at times.

I think it also depends on the apartment and its location. In my opinion, if you%26#39;re going to go without AC, and with 5 people, a big, well-ventilated apartment in a quiet location with a couple of baths would be a better place to be in a heat wave than a small, cramped apartment, with maybe only one bath, in a noisy location in the heart of the city.

For only one week, are you sure you want to rent an apartment and not get a couple of hotel rooms or a suite in a hotel? Many of the smaller hotels have installed air conditioning over the past several years and it often works quite well. If you do rent an apartment, and it has air conditioning, get details on the type of air conditioning. Do not automatically assume it%26#39;s like AC you know at home or that it will work as well. I once rented an %26quot;air conditioned%26quot; apartment in Paris in which the air conditioning was a portable totally interior thing that I guess one was supposed to move from room to room. Fortunately, I was there in the winter and didn%26#39;t have to use it.
