Opinions, Thoughts, final words of wisdom?

We are going to be in Paris from Friday March 16- March 23. We are staying at the Holiday Inn (19th). We have a long list of things we want to see, but are planning on playing it by ear. I just have a few questions:

1. For a stay that long, it seems the museum pass is a thing to get. Thinking of getting the 6day pass starting on Saturday.

2. Also thinking Carte Orange would be good for the week. Wondering what zones I should get, and also can I use that to get to Versailles?

3. The guidebooks make it seem like reservations are needed at most places for dining? That kind of goes against our %26quot;play it by ear, see where we end up%26quot; pal. Will we have a hard time eating good food without reservations? Thanks for all your help!

1. If you are going to go to multiple museums and it makes economic sense, get the 6 day pass. Not only will it save you money, the line jumping aspect is fantastic, you save an enormous amount of time.

2. For travel throughout Paris itself, you only need zones 1-2. Just get a separate ticket for Versailles.

3. If there are bistros which are popular and small that you want to go to, it is probably best to reserve. If you want to go to a high end restaurant, you should definitely reserve. Maybe a good rule of thumb could be to reserve the places you really want to eat at, and play it by ear for the rest.

Carte Orange only works Monday through Sunday. Your Friday through Sunday are kind of on there own.

Really though, get yourself a good pocket sized Paris Plan par Arrondissement (street map) booklet. The city is really tiny, especially the older touristy central part, and a lot more is in walking distance to itself than many Americans are prepared to realize. You need the street map because the place is laid out like a maze. You could potentially make it through the entire week with just a carnet of ten tickets. You%26#39;ll see a lot more by walking about too instead of being stuck underground all day.

Get a 2 day pass for the museums and pack them all in 2 days.

You do not need a pass for le Louvre. You can walk in from different entrances and buy your ticket from a machine. There are a few lines for security but they go fast.

Carte Orange works Monday to Sunday. I always get carnets of tens as I tend to walk a lot.

If you insist on going to a particular restaurant, at a certain time and especially on a week end, you must make a reservation. Otherwise you can always find a place to eat at.

Big names require reservations.
