Provence visit in April - Nice and Arles?

We%26#39;re driving from Florence to Provence for a week in April and Nice seems like the best place to break up the trip (it%26#39;s about 5 1/2 hrs from home). Any recommendations on a hotel (kid friendly?) maybe near the sea?

I thought Arles would be a good base for the rest of the visit? The kids are interested in anything Roman, so that would be our focus. Is Arles the best place to do day trips from? Again, any recommendations on hotels welcome - or suggestions if we%26#39;d be better off basing ourselves somewhere else. Many thanks.

Greetings Healdsburg,

For a day trip, you could consider Nimes. It too has a Roman arena, as does Arles. As well, in Nimes is a beautifully preserved thousand year old temple, (Maison Carree) that the kids would flip over. Another wonderful sight is the Jardin de Fontaine with ancient remains, including the ruins of the Temple de Diane. The gardens are gorgeous. Whatever, or wherever, enjoy!
