Versailles and Giverny

Seven of us are going to be in Paris and would like to make a day trip to visit Versailles and Giverny. Has anyone taken a tour that included both? Is it better to do a combined trip or go on separate days? How much time does one need to see each of these attractions?

You *can* do them both on the same day but only with an expensive coach tour. And even then I think you are short-changing yourselves. It is almost impossible to do both as a DIY day trip except by car.

IMO they are both better as separate DIY trips. Giverny is a long half day with an early-ish start to get the most convenient train to Vernon. Versailles is really pretty much a full day trip if you are going to do it any justice.

I think it%26#39;s better to do these two on separate days since for each it%26#39;s preferable to arrive first thing in the morning before the tour bus arrivals make everything hard to deal with.

For Versailles you%26#39;ll need to reserve at least a full morning until perhaps 1:00pm or 1:30, plus travel time. I usually go very early and have breakfast after I arrive in the town. Giverney takes a little less time, perhaps 3.5 or 4 hours, including travel time. Again, I go early and have tea and a snack after I%26#39;ve toured the site. There is a pleasant little tea room adjacent to the gift shop.

For Versailles, get the audio guide and move along into the buildings as quickly as possible so that you can have a not too crowded experience. For Giverney, go immediately through the tunnel to the gardens and see the house and gift shop afterwards.

Bon voyage.

this info is helpful to me as well, as my mother and i want to go to versailles for a day %26#39;on our own%26#39;...my only question is, how does one get there from the city, exactly? what is the travel time?

thanks!

%26quot;Road2%26quot;: Here is the offical web site telling how to get to the Versailles:

%26quot;bmg2490%26quot; I think you should do Versaille on one day and then on another go to Giverny and maybe to Rouen for the day.
