We will be travelling through Europe, probably France, on May 1. I have heard this is a holiday in Europe. Should we reserve hotel rooms ahead or is it necessary? We are from Canada and indulge in Grey Goose vodka. We cannot find any info on the distillery in France. Any help would be great. Thanks

In a word - yes.

There are numerous holidays during May and sometimes it is indeed difficult to find accommodations. You lose little by planning ahead.
